In 2003, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office implemented the Crime Free Multi-Housing Program, originally developed by the
Mesa Arizona Police Department, to help keep illegal activity off rental property. In 2004, the program was expanded to include
Hotel / Motels throughout unincorporated Arapahoe County and the City of Centennial.
The Crime Free Programs consist of three-phases that are completed under the supervision of the Sheriff's Office. The cornerstone
of the Crime Free Programs is the partnership between law enforcement and the community working together to prevent crime.
Crime Prevention Specialists are certified trainers of the Crime Free programs and will provide the initial program training
and property survey. Property owners and managers make the commitment to learn and apply the Crime Free Programs to help keep
illegal activity off their rental property. This combination of resources has proven to be successful in fighting crime.
The anticipated benefits of a fully certified property are reduced crime, a more stable resident base, and reduced exposure
to civil liability.
