Felony Menacing suspect in custody after four hour standoff
In the early morning hours of January 8, deputies, with the aid of officers from the Aurora Police Department, responded to
the report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, Deputies were confronted by a subject armed with a knife and demanding
to be shot. Less lethal measures were deployed but the subject refused to drop the knife. Deputies contained the subject
to his garage and negotiated with him while he repeatedly slashed at his own body with the knife.
Members from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office SWAT and Negotiations Team were called out. Negotiators established a rapport
with the subject and were able to keep him talking for several hours. However, the subject refused to surrender the knife
and at one point, attempted to lay on the knife and use his body weight to impale himself. SWAT engaged the subject with
a 40mm less lethal round which caused him to avert the suicide attempt and surrender shortly after.

a search warrant for the apartment while SWAT surrounded the location and evacuated neighboring apartments. After receiving
the search warrant, SWAT entered the location and detained eight subjects, including the attempted homicide suspect. Two
