Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post wins big at Regional Conference


 
Law Enforcement Explorers from the Sheriff’s Office competed in the 2010 LEEPAAC Regional Conference July 11th through 16th at Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado.  Approximately 175 Explorers from Colorado, California, Arizona, Wyoming and Texas competed in team and individual competitions. 

This year, 8 - Explorers and 4 - Advisors from the Sheriff’s Office attended the conference which opened with a key note speech by Sheriff Robinson on July 11th.

Explorers competed in six team events to include High Risk Entry, Continuing Case Investigation, Incident Command, Traffic Accident Investigation, High Risk Traffic Stops, and Crime Scene Investigation.  The Sheriff’s Office Explorers were recognized with the following awards:

1st Place – High Risk Entry, Ben Gurwin

1st Place – Continuing Case Investigation, Andrew Heaton

1st Place – Incident Command, Tim Knox

3rd Place – Continuing Case Investigation, Tim Knox

3rd Place – Traffic Accident Investigation, Brandon Vickrey

4th Place – High Risk Traffic Stop, Jeff Aleman

5th Place – Incident Command, Brandon Vickrey

In addition to competitions, $5,000 in scholarships were awarded to Explorers based upon academic achievement and written essays.  Andrew Heaton was awarded this year’s top scholarship in the amount of $1,500 which will be applied toward his college tuition.

The Explorers would like to thank the Sheriff’s Office for their continued support, as well as the Advisors and instructors who volunteer their time to mentor and train the young men and women of the Explorer program.
