The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the District Attorney and other criminal justice agencies, participates in the Chronic Offender Program.This program is designed to incapacitate the chronic offender during his/her active crime-producing years. The purpose of this program is the successful prosecution of the chronic offender resulting in mandatory sentencing of the maximum time allowed by law under the State’s Habitual Criminal Statutes.

The selection criteria for inclusion in the Chronic Offender Program includes two or more of the following crimes (convictions and pending cases are included): Aggravated robbery and robbery, first and second degree burglary, felony sexual assaults, or criminal attempt or conspiracy to commit the above listed crimes.

Recently, identity theft crimes where the suspect possessed the financial or personal identifying information of two or more people and possessed any of the tools listed in 18-5-905, or have a previous felony conviction and widespread pattern behavior of identity theft or crimes related to identity theft; has been added to the list of criminal offenses that can result in a person being entered into the COP program.

Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office has identified four candidates eligible for the COP program and their status is currently under review.
