Burglaries
In late 2009 and continuing through January and February of 2010, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office received several calls for service in reference to daytime residential burglaries occurring at different apartment complexes within Precinct 5.

Recognizing a distinct pattern within these burglaries, the patrol deputies assigned to this area worked closely with the Sheriff’s Office crime analyst and pattern crimes unit (Impact Team) to narrow down and identify specific times and days of the week the burglaries were taking place.

After the above information was collected and evaluated, members from patrol services (precinct deputies and the Impact Team) and investigation services (property crime investigators and the Special Investigation Section) conducted surveillance in the affected areas and were able to identify several possible suspects.

On February 8, 2010 while conducting surveillance, deputies and investigators observed one of the possible suspects walking in and out of several different apartment complexes appearing to be “casing the area.” The suspect was then observed entering one of the apartments through an unlocked ground floor window. While inside the apartment, the deputies and investigators were able to secure a perimeter and after several minutes inside, the suspect emerged from the apartment with a pillow case full of stolen items. The suspect was then safely taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was later interviewed and confessed to his involvement in some of the earlier reported burglaries and also provided investigators with several valuable leads into other burglary cases.
