On Friday, Nov. 6, at 5:30 a.m., deputies from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a person who was lying face down on a residential lawn in the 8700 block of East Philips Place. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a young adult male, lying face down, who was determined to be deceased.
The deceased was later identified as Andrew G. Graham age 23. The cause of death was determined by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office to be a gunshot wound.
An investigation into Andrew’s activities on Nov. 6 indicates that due to his recent acceptance into graduate school at the University of Colorado he traveled to Boulder via public transportation to arrange for housing.
Andrew was observed on light rail surveillance video at 11:40 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009. Andrew exited the light rail at the County Line and I-25 station and appears to leave the area on foot. Andrew was apparently walking to his home, which is located about four blocks north of South Yosemite St. and East Mineral Ave. when he was shot. We believe that this incident was the result of a random encounter which resulted in a confrontation for unknown reasons.
Although we do not believe the community is in immediate or on-going danger, we recommend that people continue to be aware of their surroundings and take normal precautionary measures.
Extensive resources have been dedicated to this investigation which is ongoing at this time. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is requested to contact the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office at (303) 795- 4711.
A significant cash award is being made available for information related to the arrests and conviction of the suspect/suspects responsible for the death of Andrew Graham.
