Retired LEO permit applications must be submitted in person and signed in the presence of the Sheriff or designee. We will process your application and take your photograph. Once you are approved for a permit, you will be contacted to return to the ACSO Administration Building to pick up your permit.

In addition to the completed application form, you must submit:

  • A valid Colorado driver’s license or Colorado ID card.
  • A copy of your retired law enforcement officer ID card issued by your agency.
  • A letter from your agency, signed by either the sheriff or chief of police, stating that you retired in good standing from your agency.
  • Proof of Residency
    • A current lease or rental agreement.
    • A current utility bill, such as electric, gas, water, or trash, listing the applicant’s name and address.
    • If the applicant resides at the address listed on the application but the property is actually owned by another party, i.e. spouse, parent, or friend, the applicant must submit a written statement from the property owner verifying the applicant’s residency at the property. The document must be signed by the property owner and witnessed by a Notary Public.
    • A cell phone, Internet, or cable bill will not be accepted as proof of residency
  • A copy of a certificate from a Colorado law enforcement agency that reflects pistol qualification scores issued within the last ten years.
  • The application will only be accepted within the first five years after retirement.  The processing fees will be waived.  A permit issued to Retired Law Enforcement Officers will expire five years from the date of issue and is not renewable.  Upon expiration of the permit, the permit holder may apply for a new permit.  A processing fee to CBI of $52.50 will apply.
