Arapahoe County is revising its Land Development Code and Building Code to reflect the needs of the eastern communities. Currently, the design and construction standards for items such as roadways, drainage, grading and erosion control are the
same for rural and urban development within unincorporated Arapahoe County. The County recognizes the need for distinct rural
engineering and planning requirements that support the communities’ rural character and natural areas.
We appreciate the feedback we received from residents on the draft standards during the Jan. 31 open house. Some minor revisions
were made to the Engineering Standards that included the addition of equestrian trail guidelines and text clarifications as
well as an illustration of the access requirements. Planning Standards stayed the same.
Once comments have been reviewed, the draft documents will be modified as appropriate, and a formal recommendation will be
presented at a Planning Commission public hearing, tentatively set for July.
Please refer to the DRAFT Rural Standards Summary link below for major topics included in the proposed standards.
