Mosquito Control
West Nile Virus is in Colorado to stay and citizens are encouraged to take steps to protect themselves. Arapahoe County is
working with Tri-County Health, local cities and towns and special districts to control the pesky insects by larviciding mosquito-prone
areas. The County’s mosquito control effort is led by our Animal Control Division, which is using sophisticated GIS technology to map and track mosquito-prone areas for not only Arapahoe County, but also
Tri-County Health and our neighboring cities as well.
People who work outdoors should wear long sleeve shirts and pants, and use mosquito-repellent, especially when outdoors during
dusk and dawn, the time of day when mosquitoes are most prevalent. When you are around your home, be sure to dump any standing
water in buckets, plant containers, birdbaths, etc., weekly. These are areas where mosquitoes breed.
