If abuse or neglect is suspected, please call Arapahoe County Human Services at 303-636-1750 to make an anonymous report.

Every report received is reviewed by a supervisor and an appropriate level of response is determined. Upon receipt of a child abuse/neglect report, an Intake caseworker will conduct an initial assessment and determine the level of risk to the child or children. The intake worker will evaluate the family's situation and identify and address the safety issues that brought the family to our attention.

Our goal is to identify and protect victims from further abuse, while working cooperatively to keep families together and provide services to resolve safety concerns. Services will include direct contact with a caseworker and regular meetings to discuss the family's safety plan, and may include referrals to services offered by our agency or community partners, such as substance abuse and mental health treatment for parents and children, home-based services and sexual abuse treatment.

If an investigation determines that there is an immediate safety concern in the home, the child may be temporarily removed from the home for his/her own protection and placed by court order in out-of-home care. This could include a certified foster home, licensed group home or placement with the child's relatives or individuals in close relationship to the child. Out-of-home care is a temporary situation and is dependent on this family's circumstances. Our main goal is to safely reunite a child with his or her family.
