Colorado Works - known as TANF - provides cash assistance for very low-income families, and women who are at least six months pregnant. The amount of financial aid provided is based on family size, income, resources and ages of the children, starting from the date the application is received. For TANF you'll need:

  • Completed application
  • Proof of monthly income
  • Immunization records for children
  • Social Security numbers for all household members
  • Proof of all household resources
  • Proof of pregnancy (where applicable)
  • Proof of residence
  • Valid Colorado ID
  • Proof of lawful presence and a signed affidavit for applicants 18 years and older (for specific requirements, please click on the Federal Budget Reduction Act and House Bill 1023 Implications link)

Due to federal mandates, applicants are required to participate in a work activity. Applicants are assessed during the interview and a determination is made on what services continuum  is best for the family. The applicant may qualify for State or County Diversion which assists in meeting immediate needs.

Applications may be required to apply for Child Support.

Here are some important things to remember when applying for TANF:

  • All questions on the application must be completed. Incomplete information can delay approval of eligibility for TANF benefits
  • Social Security numbers must be provided for anyone, including children, in need of TANF assistance
  • All information must be true and accurate

As of December 1996, an adult TANF recipient may receive benefits for no more than 60 months. During this 60-month time limit recipients are required to participate in work activities. In general, adult TANF recipients are expected to become self-sufficient within this time limit. Also:

  • The 60 months do not have to be consecutive months; and
  • Children who have received TANF benefits for 60 months may be eligible for TANF benefits when they become adults.

Call 303-636-1170 or complete an application at 14980 E. Alameda Dr. in Aurora or 1690 W. Littleton Blvd in Littleton.

Applicants who are TANF eligible may qualify for the Diversion Benefits program.
