Since its inception in 1978, Judicial Services has provided alternative sentencing programs for District and County courts.
Pretrial Release
- First of the Judicial Services Programs, established in April 1977, to reduce overcrowding in jails, and costs to taxpayers
- Maximizes release of qualified detainees under specific supervision conditions
- Provides enhanced supervision through electronic monitoring and global positioning
- Funded by the Arapahoe County General Fund
Alternative Services/Useful Public Service
- Alternative Services was established in February 1978 by the Board of County Commissioners to reduce the overcrowding in the
Arapahoe County jail
- Useful Public Service was established in July 1982 in response to the passage of the drunk driving bill by the State Legislature
mandating community service on all alcohol-related traffic offenses
- Provides a meaningful and positive work experience that allows for constructive use of skills and manpower to public service
agencies
- Funded by the Arapahoe County General Fund
Community Corrections
- Established in August 1981 to provide an alternative to the courts to sentencing offenders or releasing inmates directly into
the community
- Board of County Commissioners appointed a Community Corrections Board to maintain and operate the Community Corrections program
that serves the 18th Judicial District
- Community Corrections is funded by a grant from the State of Colorado, Division of Criminal Justice
- Four percent of the grant goes to Arapahoe County for administration, staff services, technical assistance and board expenditures,
as directed by the Community Corrections Board
