The goal of the Homemaker program is to assist Arapahoe County residents in maintaining their independence in a safe and healthy environment.

The Homemaker Program aims to keep people self sufficient and independent in their homes for as long as possible before they must make use of more expensive and usually Medicaid funded, yet less personal options such as assisted living facilities, nursing homes or hospice.

Services Provided
Services provided by Homemakers include general routine light cleaning such as changing bed linens, doing laundry, dusting furniture, vacuuming and mopping floors, washing inside windows, wiping down counters and refrigerators, cleaning ovens and general cleaning of kitchens and bathrooms.

Services are generally provided on a bi-weekly basis for 1.5 hours. In cases of extreme necessity a program coordinator may approve weekly visits based on staff availability. Periodic visits may be made by a program coordinator to determine continued eligibility and to provide information about other programs which might beneficial to the client.

Eligibility
Arapahoe County residents who have some type of documented physical or mental disability or chronic condition, which restricts their ability to maintain their own home, and who have an income at or below 125 percent of the federal poverty income level may be eligible for homemaker services.

For more information about the Homemaker program, call 303-738-8080. You will be asked to have your doctor complete a "Disability Assessment Form," provide verification of household income, and a copy of identification or birth certificate.
