After the death of a loved one, you may find it hard to concentrate enough to read. Do not get upset about this because your
ability to concentrate will get better over time.
There are a number of good books that we recommend you read. Not every book will help you, but you will find that each book
has something in it that will help you in a small way. Reading any of our recommended books below, may help you with your
grieving process.
On Death and Dying Kubler-Ross, Elizabeth Ms. Ross describes the 5 stages of grief that all people go through and how they can heal from a death of a loved one. Through
this book, Hospice was born and this book became a symbol of Hospices all over the world.
How to Survive the Loss of a Loved One Colgrove, Melba, Bloomfield, Harold H., Williams, Peter 1976 A small and easy to read. It is written with love and humor. Wonderful information is given to take care of yourself after
any loss. This book can be found in most bookstores.
Living Through a Personal Crisis Stearns, Ann Kaiser 1984 An in-depth book at our reactions to crisis and how we can learn to live through it and come out a survivor and not a victim.
This book can be found in most bookstores.
Lessons from the Light Anderson,George, 1999 This book is a very good book that I recommend to a lot of families of S.I.D.S. and suicide. George Anderson is a well known
medium who communicates with the dead especially children and suicide victims.
Our Children Forever Messages from Children on the Other Side Anderson,George, 1999 A second recommended book from the author of Lessons From the Light. This book is for the loss of a child.
The Path Through Grief Bouvard, Marguerite, 1998 This book explains the various stages of grief and mourning, how we can help ourselves and others, and how to move "beyond"
grief. Good solid information.
The Worst Loss: How Families Heal From the Death of a Child Rosof, Barbara, 1994 The author, a child psychotherapist, discusses the journey of grieving a family must make when a child dies. Four categories;
the torn canopy, the work of grieving, families speak, and the rest of your life.
Life After Suicide: A Ray of Hope for Those Left Behind Ross, Betsy, 1997 This author works through her own personal bereavement, its rejection and stigma, and gives specific suggestions for helping
survivors, children and others.
What Happens to Good People When Bad Things Happen Schuller, Robert, 1995 California church pastor reminds readers that the ray of shining hope in even the most wretched situations is God at work. Christian
spirituality explored.
To Begin Again: The Journey Toward Comfort, Strength, and Faith in Difficult Times Levy, Naomi, 1998 Rabbi Levy helps readers take the steps she believes are necessary to process grief and move forward after a traumatic death
of a loved one.
This is just a suggestion of some books that have been recommended to us. You can go to your local library and find more
books on the above subjects. Also, the local bookstores have a wide selection of books on grief, suicide, and the loss of
a loved one.
